CS2 fantasy roster lock and substitutions: when can you edit?
You can normally change a ClutchKing CS2 fantasy roster while its market is open, subject to the stage's substitution allowance and roster rules. Once the market closes, a saved roster is locked. Late entry, when offered, is a separate path for an eligible first roster, not a way to edit an existing one.
Before making a change, check the event, league, stage, market status and save confirmation. A match on the broadcast, an old deadline screenshot or a lineup image does not establish what you can submit now.
Start with the status on your roster page
| Your situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Market open | Build or edit within the current rules, then save before the displayed deadline |
| Market closed, with a saved roster | Follow your points; wait for an actual editing window before changing picks |
| Market closed, without a first roster in the supported official competition | Check whether the page offers late entry and confirms your eligibility |
| Event ended | Review the results and choose another event |
Use the date, time and timezone shown for the relevant stage. Save with time to spare. A stage being live does not itself mean the market is open, and a later match start does not extend the deadline for an already locked roster.
If the page reports that the stage or player availability changed, reload the relevant details and review your picks before trying again. Check the event inside your own league: another league's rules or saved roster do not automatically apply to it.
Before the first lock: fill the roster and confirm the save
Fill every required slot, stay within the available budget and respect the team limit. The standard CS2 setup is one IGL, one AWPer, two riflers, one Flex and one coach, with at most three selections from one team including the coach. Community leagues can use different settings.
The substitution allowance governs changes from a previous-stage roster; it does not mean a first-time entrant should fill only that many slots. Your first roster still needs to be complete and valid.
Use the roles and Flex guide if you are unsure who can occupy a slot. Flex accepts a Rifler or AWPer entry in the standard setup. A saved team-builder image or picks held in your browser are not a submitted competitive roster.
After saving, check the confirmation for the correct event and league. If you make more edits, save those too. An earlier successful save does not automatically include later changes.
Between stages: check the new allowance
Your roster carries into the next stage. Review the carried lineup when that stage's market opens; do not assume eliminated players or unwanted picks will be replaced for you.
Each stage has its own substitution allowance. Unused substitutions do not carry over. A stage with zero substitutions does not permit replacing a player or coach in the carried roster. Read the allowance for the stage you are entering rather than reusing the previous stage's number.
ClutchKing counts new player entries against your previous-stage lineup, rather than charging a substitution for each click or save. Replacing a coach counts as a substitution too.
A two-substitution example
Suppose the previous-stage roster contains players A, B, C, D and E, plus coach F. This stage allows two substitutions. These are invented examples; assume every proposed replacement meets the budget, role and team rules.
| Proposed lineup change | Substitutions used | Within the limit? |
|---|---|---|
| Replace E with G | 1 | Yes |
| Keep G and replace coach F with coach H | 2 | Yes |
| Save that same lineup again | 2 | Yes |
| Also replace D with I | 3 | No |
| Restore E, keeping only coach H as a new pick | 1 | Yes |
The third replacement is rejected. Saving the two-change lineup twice does not use four substitutions. Restoring E removes that difference from the previous-stage roster, provided the restored lineup is still legal.
Moving the same selected entries between compatible slots does not add a new player. For example, exchanging a Rifler and a Rifler in Flex uses no substitution by itself. Choosing a different role entry for the same person can be a different selection, so review the changes counter rather than assuming every role change is free.
A legal substitution must also fit the budget and roles
A remaining substitution is permission to make a change, not an exemption from the other rules. Check the incoming player's eligibility, the full lineup cost and the coach-inclusive team limit before saving.
Prices can change in leagues with dynamic pricing. Use the current prices and available balance shown in your league, not the opening prices in an older screenshot. A player who fit earlier may no longer fit the lineup you now want. The budget guide explains how to compare the complete change.
If restoring a previous pick would now exceed the budget or team limit, the undo action may be blocked. Review the affected slots manually. A change shown in the editor still needs a confirmed save to become your competitive lineup.
A normal substitution between stages does not erase the points earned by your previous-stage picks. Stage standings show that stage; the event leaderboard combines the stages. The scoring guide explains how match performance becomes fantasy points.
After lock: late entry has its own restrictions
The supported free official CS2 league may offer late entry for an eligible first roster. The event page checks the account, competition, remaining players and current availability. Do not assume a private or community league offers the same path.
Late entry uses eligible players from teams that have not started playing in the current stage. A team that already played earlier in that stage is not made eligible again just because it has another match later. There must also be enough eligible players to fill a legal, affordable lineup.
Availability can change while you choose. If a match starts, its cutoff passes or availability cannot be verified, some picks or the whole late-entry option may become unavailable. Follow the page's updated instructions and any replacement prompts.
A late-entry roster locks when saved. You cannot use late entry to revise a roster already submitted in that competition. Later edits require a regular open market and the applicable stage rules. The late-entry cutoff is separate from the market status: late entry does not mean the market reopened for everyone.
If saving is slow or uncertain
Treat a pending confirmation as unresolved. It does not prove that the roster was saved, and it does not prove that the save failed.
- Still unconfirmed: use Check save status and wait for a clear result. If asked to sign in again or keep the page open, follow that instruction.
- Saved, but details could not refresh: use Refresh details. Review any newer edits separately; they may still be unsaved.
- A newer roster exists: use Load latest roster when you are ready to replace the picks currently shown, then review the current version.
- Save rejected: read the reason, correct the invalid picks or budget, and save again only if entry or editing is still available.
Checking an earlier submission's status does not reopen the market or guarantee that a new edit can be accepted after the deadline. Avoid relying on a last-second save.
Your check before leaving the page
Confirm the correct event, league and stage; check the market or late-entry deadline; review the substitution count, roles, team limit and budget; then make sure the final version has a successful save confirmation.
Open the event directory to return to your competition or find the next event. The CS2 fantasy page explains the official entry path. Use your own league's event page for community rosters.
Sources and scope
Checked on 26 October 2026 against ClutchKing's roster-save validation, stage carryover, substitution counting, late-entry eligibility and save-status flows, plus the public fantasy entry explanation. The two-substitution example is hypothetical and was checked with the roster validator. Its allowance is illustrative, not a promise that every stage permits two changes.
