CS2 fantasy roles and Flex picks: how to choose each slot
CS2 fantasy roles change what makes a player worth selecting. Start with the required slots, check how each role earns points, then use Flex to choose the best fit for the remaining budget and team limits.
This guide covers the standard ClutchKing lineup: one IGL, one AWPer, two riflers, one Flex and one coach. Community leagues can change their settings, so check your competition before applying the examples.
Know what Flex actually allows
Flex accepts a rifler or an AWPer. An IGL entry and a coach entry cannot fill it. Flex is a roster slot, not a separate scoring model: an AWPer placed there keeps the applicable AWPer scoring rules.
Use the role attached to the player in the event pool. A player who leads a real CS2 team does not automatically qualify for every fantasy role. If someone appears under more than one eligible role, those entries still represent one person; you cannot select that person twice.
The standard limit is three selections from the same team, including the coach. Check the budget, required roles and team count together.
IGL: start with the team's matchup
Under the Default IGL rules checked for this guide, a map win earns 12 points and a loss costs 6. Each round of positive or negative score difference contributes +3 or −3. The team's opening kills add one point each, while the IGL's own kill–death difference contributes 0.4 points per unit.
Here is an illustrative single-map calculation, not a professional match result. An IGL's team wins 13–8, records 12 opening kills, and the IGL finishes with four more deaths than kills:
12 + (5 × 3) + 12 − (4 × 0.4) = 37.4 points.
A negative personal kill–death difference can coexist with a useful fantasy score. When comparing IGLs, examine the team's recent maps and next opponent alongside the player's own output. Do not rank these entries using personal kills alone, or treat a higher team ranking as a guaranteed map win.
AWPer: check AWP impact and the death penalty
The Default AWPer model rewards each kill with 3 points and each AWP kill with an additional 2. AWP kills remain part of the overall kill count; the role bonus is added on top. Each death costs 4 points. Opening kills, clutches and the recorded multikill statistic also contribute.
That makes AWP usage and survival relevant when reviewing recent maps. Two players with similar kill totals can score differently because their AWP kills, deaths and other contributions differ. Assists do not earn points in this Default AWPer model.
The worked scoring guide explains a real 43-point map for molodoy. Use that breakdown to understand the formula, then inspect several matches, prices and opponents before choosing your AWPer.
Riflers: choose for the scoring model you will use
The two required rifler slots use the same eligibility rules. You do not have to assign an entry fragger to one and a support player to the other. Those real-game responsibilities can inform your research, but the event's role and scoring settings decide the points.
Under Default Rifler scoring, kills earn 3 points, deaths cost 3, assists add 1 and flash assists add 1. Opening kills, clutches and multikills add further points. If your competition offers the Support variant, the weights change substantially: assists earn 2 and flash assists earn 3, while kills earn 0.3 and deaths cost 0.8.
The following two invented stat lines show why that choice matters. They are single-map teaching examples, not forecasts or records belonging to named professionals. Both players have zero clutches.
| Statistic or result | Player A | Player B |
|---|---|---|
| Kills | 22 | 16 |
| Deaths | 12 | 12 |
| Assists | 2 | 9 |
| Flash assists | 1 | 6 |
| Opening kills | 3 | 1 |
| Recorded multikill statistic | 5 | 3 |
| Default Rifler points | 57 | 39 |
| Support Rifler points | 8.0 | 33.2 |
Player A leads under Default; Player B leads under Support. For Player B, Default gives 48 − 36 + 9 + 6 + 3 + 9 = 39. Support gives 4.8 − 9.6 + 18 + 18 + 0.5 + 1.5 = 33.2.
The Support calculation uses 0.5 points per opening kill and per unit of the recorded multikill statistic; its clutch weight is 2. Assists and flash assists remain separate scoring entries. Changing the weights changes the ranking without changing either stat line.
Check which model is available and selected before comparing recent fantasy averages. The Support label is a scoring option where offered, not permission to put any player in any slot. A single example also does not establish which player will be more consistent.
Coach: evaluate the team, then count the slot
The Default coach rule uses the real team's average fantasy output. It is not the average of the players you selected for your own fantasy roster. Review the team's recent performances and opposition, and check the coach model used by your competition.
Keep the coach in your budget and team-count calculation from the start. Selecting FalleN, KSCERATO and coach sidde already uses three FURIA selections. A fourth FURIA pick would exceed the standard limit, even if the budget still worked.
Flex: compare a third rifler with a second AWPer
Here is a concrete choice using the historical opening prices for Thunderpick World Championship 2026, played on 14–18 October. Keep five selections fixed and compare two 18-credit candidates for Flex.
| Slot | Fixed pick or Flex option | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| IGL | FalleN · FURIA | 15 |
| AWP | m0NESY · Falcons | 20 |
| Rifler | KSCERATO · FURIA | 17 |
| Rifler | HUASOPEEK · 9z | 15 |
| Coach | sidde · FURIA | 15 |
| Fixed subtotal | 82 | |
| Flex option A | NiKo · Falcons · Rifler | 18 |
| Flex option B | woxic · Aurora · AWP | 18 |
Choose one Flex option, not both: 82 + 18 = 100 credits. Both complete lineups satisfy the standard role and team limits. NiKo produces a lineup with three riflers and one AWPer; woxic produces two riflers and two AWPers. Both retain one IGL and one coach.
This comparison isolates the Flex choice at the same cost. It does not establish a winner. Compare NiKo's points under the applicable Rifler model with woxic's under the applicable AWPer model, then inspect their samples and opponents. Do not apply Rifler weights to woxic simply because he occupies Flex.
Use the player comparison method for that research. If your candidates cost different amounts, compare the full roster adjustment using the budget guide. These historical prices are not a shortlist for the next event.
Check every slot before submitting
- Confirm the event pool, required roles and any scoring variants.
- Research the IGL and coach through their teams as well as their recorded points.
- Compare AWPer and rifler candidates under the models that will apply.
- Test both eligible Flex approaches against the remaining budget.
- Check unique players, the coach-inclusive team limit, the market deadline and permitted substitutions.
Use the team builder to arrange and share a lineup. To compete, choose an available event, check its current rules and prices, and submit your roster there. The shareable builder does not save a competitive roster.

Checked on 25 October 2026 against the ClutchKing scoring rules, the standard roster rules and saved opening prices for Thunderpick World Championship 2026. The IGL and Rifler calculations are explicitly hypothetical examples using those scoring weights; both were recalculated with the scoring engine. The two complete Flex lineups were checked with the roster validator.
